I decided to make this lighthouse as it offered multiple challenges with each of the separate components. In the beginning I drilled holes down the center of each piece, this was in preparation of the wiring as I do not have a drill bit long enough to pass through later once assembled. Main body is the easiest section to make and can be made with any number of stripes or patterns. The viewing platform was made from dowels which I drilled holes through and then joined using toothpicks to make the railing. The beacon housing was time consuming as the wall was quite thin so I had to be patient when shaping out the window holes. The one shown in the video was actually my second attempt as I tried to rush the first and it broke. The roof is a simple dome, sized to fit the beacon housing. The LED lighting was made from a USB cable and is currently powered via a mobile phone charger. Today's project features wood from: Base: Tree branch from my garden. Tower: Off cuts from a previous project. Viewing platform: Wood dowels and tooth picks Beacon housing: Tree branch from my garden. Roof: Off cuts from a previous project. Lathe: MC900 / JWL1236 Nova Pro-Tek G3 Chuck Wood finish Main body & roof: Briwax Beacon housing: Clear gloss All of the wood shown in my videos is locally and sustainability sourced. Many pieces include recycled native timber from items such as old furniture, house renovations, building demolitions and the occasional tree.
