Filmed May 20, 2025. The Minnesota Transportation Museum's annual equipment move from winter maintenance base at the Jackson Street Roundhouse in St Paul, MN to summer operating base at Osceola, WI. Great Northern SDP40 325 (built in 1966) and Burlington Northern SD9 6234 (built in 1959 as Colorado & Southern 839) lead an eight car train of vintage Northern Pacific, Rock Island, and Great Northern passenger cars that will be used for the 2025 excursion season. Great Northern 325, having been repainted in 2023, has a "new" voice. Gone are her former K3LA and EMD steel bell, and she now sports a Prime 990 and an EMD bronze bell, the bell being borrowed from the Museum's Soo GP7 559, which is out of service. GN 325 wears the same "Simplified Orange" scheme as GN SD45 400, the "Hustle Muscle", which is currently on display in Duluth, MN. Ironically, 325 is often confused with 400 now, given the identical paint. Coincidentally, 325 and 400 are very closely related, with 325 being one serial number older than 400 being built at the same time. In 2015 and 2016, 325 and 400 operated together in Osceola, but 325 was still in BN paint at the time. Maybe someday the two will reunite now that both are painted in their "as delivered" appearance. The chase begins near "Midway" in the Twin Cities, were the train having departed the roundhouse in St Paul traversing BNSF, navigates the Minnesota Commercial connection, where it rejoins BNSF tracks until it switches to CPKC tracks from Minneapolis to Withrow. The train crosses the Minnesota Commerical/Canadian National at New Brighton, then enters the Canadian National Dresser Sub ("Home Rails") at Withrow. Because the Dresser Sub was "closed" until noon, the migration train had to stop and flag a number of crossings until Marine, when the train was able to operate normally. In all, eight locations are seen. Despite the heavy rain and high wind, the chase was rather successful.
