How To Rap: Dissecting Beats 0:27 Today i'm going to be teaching you about musical time and how it can improve your cadences when rapping. I will be showing you how to take a 4 count beat and apply double time to create 8 beats and then triple time to create 16 beats which is the most popular beat most rappers rap to. 0:59 to demonstrate different counts of musical time I made a simple timbaland type beat to show you different counts by using the hi hat. Your most basic count is 4 beats per measure then you have your 8 count and then your 16 count. When you are approaching a song find the 4 count first since it's the easiest and then dissect the beat for the rest of the counts from there. 3:16 demonstrating 4 count with the hi hat 3:45 demonstrating 8 count with the hi hat 4:15 demonstrating 16 count with the hi hat 4:58 and remember you don't have to commit to one count for the whole track nor a whole verse or bar. This technique is for helping you break down the beat in order to give you a good idea of all the different cadences you can build around it.
