What the Bush Teaches Us | A Two-Day Kruger Self-Drive In this episode, we return to the southern reaches of Kruger National Park for a calm and reflective two-day self-drive — an experience that once again shows us that the bush always has something to teach. Filmed over two separate visits on 26 July 2025 and 2 August 2025, this winter journey through the south of the park highlights the beauty of slow travel, early mornings, and quiet observation. Being based in Malelane allows us to explore this region regularly, revisiting familiar roads and waterholes, and gradually learning more about animal behavior and movement. While familiarity offers comfort, the Kruger is never predictable — and that balance between knowing and not knowing is part of what makes every drive unique. Over the course of these two days, we are rewarded with memorable sightings, including: A relaxed group of lionesses resting in the open A second lion sighting of three male lions lying in the shade along the H22 A herd of buffalo, including individuals with rare and unusual hide markings Peaceful scenes at Mestel Dam, Lake Panic, and Renosterpan Beautiful winter light, birdlife, and close-up wildlife encounters Beyond the sightings, this episode centres around a Lesson from Nature. By observing how animals cautiously approach water — weighing familiarity, risk, and reward — we’re reminded that while comfort offers safety, growth often lies just beyond what feels familiar. This is not a rushed safari experience. It’s a slow, thoughtful self-drive through the Kruger — where patience, stillness, and awareness often lead to the most meaningful moments.
