Number eight in my list of top ten favourite James Taylor guitar intros is 'Up on the roof'. Originally written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, this song was recorded in 1962 by The Drifters. It became a hit in 1963, reaching number 5 in the U.S. pop singles chart. James Taylor recorded a beautiful acoustic-style version of the song, featured on his 1979 album 'Flag'.
