According to mythology, this temple is associated with the Ahiravan episode from the Ramayana. It is believed that Ahiravan, the ruler of Patal Loka, kidnapped Lord Rama and Lakshmana. To rescue them, Hanuman entered Patal Loka in an inverted upside-down(Ulte) position. The unique upside-down idol of Hanuman at this temple symbolizes this legendary event. Devotees believe that offering prayers in this temple helps in overcoming obstacles and fulfilling wishes.
