Spokane Valley City Council passes resolution reaffirming non-sanctuary status

The city council voted to reaffirm that the city is not a sanctuary city, while also updating a 2016 measure to align with current state laws. In 2016, the city took the same stance on sanctuary and directed law enforcement to assist federal agencies, such as ICE, in enforcing immigration laws. But in 2019, a state law went into effect known as the Keep Washington Working Act, which restricts local law enforcement from that collaboration. The resolution passed on Tuesday restates that Spokane Valley is not a sanctuary city but does not direct local law enforcement to collaborate with federal agents.
