Another very common question I receive is should I bail my loved one out of jail. The answer to that is, it usually depends. A lot of times, at least in San Bernardino County, police will arrest a loved one for one specific charge, that person then post bail, they have court roughly 60 days from the time they were arrested, and then the district attorney has decided to add different additional charges to what the person was initially arrested for. The problem you now face then is whatever you posted as the bail usually is going to be much higher because of the new charges that were not considered at the day of your arrest. Thus there is a chance that if you bail someone out of jail you can come back in 2 months and your bail can be tripled, it can go up so much that you not only lose out on the money you initially posted but you're unable to post a new bail and your loved one then goes back to jail so in essence you just bought a month or 2 of freedom before they have to go back in. Sometimes it's better to wait to consult an attorney before you make a decision on whether to bail someone out of jail.
