This drone footage shows Llansteffan Castle, located at the mouth of the River Tywi in Carmarthenshire. The site was originally established as a Norman ringwork in the late 11th century and later rebuilt in stone during the 12th and 13th centuries. Llansteffan Castle controlled access to the Tywi estuary and functioned as a strategic stronghold during conflicts between Norman lords and Welsh princes, later passing between Welsh and English control. Its position allowed oversight of maritime routes and inland movement through the Tywi Valley. The aerial view shows the hilltop setting, curtain walls, and relationship between the castle, estuary, and surrounding coastline, illustrating its strategic siting rather than large-scale fortification.
