I’m getting ready to use the AutoPot system and as part of it, I’ll be using expanded clay pebbles, more commonly known as the brand name Hydroton. Hydroponic growers will be familiar with these, as well as growers of other styles in the garden. Hydroton can be used in many ways. It’s my first time using them in this garden, so I wanted to take everyone along as I prepared them for use. By rinsing and soaking them, I wanted to determine two things - 1) Do the clay pebbles change the pH of the water that I am using to feed my roots? and 2) Do the clay pebbles raise the EC / PPM of the water in ways that could be a detriment to the plants? Keep in mind, there are different levels of quality to the clay pebbles, but I chose a commonly used brand, which was also economically priced.
