Three years after the mysterious disappearance of his wife Mia, Ethan Winters receives a video of her in distress beckoning him to investigate. He has to escape the house, but all the doors are sealed shut and the windows are all bared. His only hope of leaving is a special door that requires the emblem of a dog's head in order to open. If Ethan wants to escape, he must find the emblem before he is discovered. Ethan's cautious search throughout the house leads him into the basement. While searching in the basement he steps into a large two-story storage room filled with the dead murdered bodies of the Baker family. The bodies are all hanging up-side-down from chains that stretch all the way up to the high ceiling. Up in the distance, by the edge of an elevated catwalk is the dog emblem Ethan needs in order to escape. Ethan makes his way up the clanky metal stair case and heads to the edge of the platform where the emblem is dangling on display, but as soon as he goes to reach for it, Jack Baker pops out of nowhere, grabs Ethan and kicks him off the ledge into the caged pit below. Surrounded by bars and hanging bodies, Ethan finds himself in the worst possible situation as Jack Baker jumps down into the pit with him holding an axe, ready for a brawl.
