A Musical Tribute to Seamus Creagh, 37th Cork Folk Festival, Ireland. == PLEASE VISIT LINKS: http://www.corkfolkfestival.com/ / 198664140176287 The 37th Cork Folk Festival took place between the 29th September and the 2nd October 2016. It is an annual music event that takes place in Ireland’s southern capital city of Cork. The 37 year old festival is emerging as one of the most important folk & traditional music events. The event has a strong focus on local Cork City, Sliabh Luachra and Cuil Aodha music and song.Since its birth in 1979, Cork Folk Festival has earned a reputation for bringing together some of the biggest names on the traditional and folk scene, as well as championing some of its up-and-coming stars. Set in Cork city, is has a unique atmosphere, taking in many of the city’s famous venues, but the festival feels intimate, despite its diversity in venues. The 2016 line-up included Roy Harper, Steve Tilston, Karrie O'Sullivan with Jimmy Smyth,Mick Flannery, Lynched, Buttons & Bows, The Unthanks, We Banjo 3, Socks in the Frying Pan, John Leo Carter, Box Car Bertha, Tir Na Nog, Nicole McGuire, and introduced Atlantic Arc Orchestra with Donal Lunny, Pauline Scanlon, Jarlath Henderson, Aidan O’Rourke and Padraig Rynne, and The Compánach Concert- The Music of Ireland with contributions from Fintan Vallely, Gerry O ‘Connor, Tiarnán Ó Duinnchinn, Karan Casey, Emma O’Sullivan, Jacques Nutan, and there was The Céilí Mór with Allow Céilí Band, Seán Ó Sé, Douglas Comhaltas Céilí Band, The Henry Girls from Donegal, and from The Warwick Folk Festival, The Harvesters and also Rob Halligan, and Duane Andrews and Aaron Collins from Newfoundland, and Jacques Stotzem from Belgium and many more. There was also the Noel Brazil Contemporary Song contest which started in 2013. History:The opening night, of the long running Festival was on Thursday September 13th 1979 at Douglas GAA Club; (there was no Festival in 1988) Put together from year to year purely on a voluntary basis by a dedicated group of enthusiasts, aided by major sponsorship, and a combination of various sponsors and supporters, including those who over the years contribute financially to the cost of staging the festival, Cork City Council, the Arts Council, Fáilte Ireland, Carling, Beamish Irish Stout and CIT, and the Evening Echo etc. Its endurance is a tribute to the energy and labour of its workers. It is appropriate to acknowledge the voluntary organising committee, and also the many volunteer workers who take charge of doors, organise artist accommodation, look after publicity, liaise with artists, and numerous other things involved in making such an event possible year on year. Particular recognition for Jim Walsh, Chairman and someone who has been a vital cog in Festival organisation since that very first year, long-serving Festival Director William "Hammy" Hammond, and also Timmy "the Brit" McCarthy, the inspirational figure behind the Festival's inception, as well as its original Director/Secretary. == THIS IS AMATEUR HANDHELDS FOOTAGE AND DOES NOT FULLY REFLECT THE CONCERT SOUND OR PERFORMANCE AND IS HERE FOR NO FINANCIAL GAIN BY ME.
