In this tutorial/demo Chris Gannon goes through the process of encapsulating a Greensock (GSAP) JavaScript animation built using Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), CSS and embedded fonts into a single, portable .SVG file that has exceptional performance and a very small footprint. ******************* As the Flash SWF format becomes less and less popular (mainly due to the fact that mobile devices don't support it) there is a need for a single, portable file format that plays everywhere and encapsulates the things you need for a rich experience. Fonts, images, graphics, CSS, JavaScript and HTML are standard requirements for most projects now but because they are all of a different type they tend to be in separate files, leading to the need for a directory full of assets and sub folders. Many sectors could benefit hugely from this small file-size, scalable and, most importantly, portable format (I'm looking at you, online advertising industry). ******************* With special thanks to Carl Schooff from Greensock and Elliot Geno for the heads up on this approach.
