Today in this 2008 Dodge Ram pickup 1500 Series, we're going to show you the Tekonsha Voyager trailer brake controller, part number 39510. Now, to help us on our installation, we'll also be using part number ETBC7. This is a brake controller installation kit. This is what the Tekonsha Voyager brake controller looks like once installed in a typical application. First off, a brake controller doesn't really take up all that much room. It's kind of easy to use. By the way, this is their manual override. This is what controls the brakes on the trailer by themselves. You can also see, on top here's a LED right here that gives our indication of what's going on. When nothing's happening, this LED is going to be green. It also shows that you have a connection to your trailer. This only comes on when you have a proper connection to your trailer. If this goes off for any other reason, then you have a bad connection and you need to fix that. Now you notice when I hit the manual override, it turns red, so red is your maximum output. Now that actually can be controlled by this dial right here on the right hand side. I got it all the way forward to show the colors, so I dial it back. You can see how the colors change from red to orange to yellow and to green, which is basically off, but it still monitors the connection to your trailer. A lot of times you're going to probably going to be set up in the orange range. Now, others 00:01:24, dial is on the left hand side here. That controls the level on the insider brake controller. Now the inertia device inside here can be controlled by this level. If you want it more aggressive, the knob you turn to the front of the truck. When I hit the brake pedal, you can see it comes on really fast. If I turn it back, in this case, we won't even get much of a change because the truck's not moving right now. If we we're moving, this would turn up and go through the colors. Very simple, easy to use. What's nice about this controller on the side is you can fine tune this brake controller, compared to the ones that have automatic leveling on the inside. Now, a couple of requirements on mounting this brake controller, it has to be in a straight line with the vehicle, and as little side tilt as possible. Now the tilt on this can be a range from 20 degrees down up to 70 degrees up. Pretty simple and easy to use. Next we'll go ahead and show you how we installed it on our truck. All right, to start off our install, we're going to go ahead and pop off the cover for the knockout that's already in the bumper for a 7-pole connector. This is our 7-pole connector. It comes with the ETBC7 kit. It has a 7-pole connector and a 4-pole end. Before we install this, we'll go ahead and tape up the wires, make them a little easier to run through the inside and work with them later. Our white and purple wires, we'll bundle those up too. Let's take this assembly and install it into the knockout that's in the bumper. We use provider hardware to attach it to the bumper, long bolt to the inside. We'll line up the holes and then a nut on the other side. These two are going to be relatively easy. On this side, it's going to be closer; you'll need some patience with these guys. Now these bolts seem a little bit on the short side. The trick is to make sure you've pushed this all the way to the inside and sometimes it'll snap up against the plastic, and you'll have just enough threads to get the nuts started. Our 4-pole behind our 7-pole connector will plug into the factory 4-pole right here, or a preexisting 4-pole connector in your truck. We'll add some dielectric grease to the contacts to help protect them so we have a semi-permanent connection once we're done. We'll also wrap it up with some electrical tape to help protect it. Next up, we'll work with our ground wire. That'll be the white wire at the ring terminal, and we'll attach that to the frame. We use the provided self-tapping screw to do that with and to install it, we'll need a drill and a 3/8th nut driver. I'l
