A 22-year-old B.Ed student from Odisha tragically succumbed to her injuries after setting herself ablaze in protest against the inaction on her sexual harassment complaint. She had accused her department head, Prof. Samir Kumar Sahu of FM Autonomous College, Balasore, of repeated abuse. Despite submitting a detailed letter to the college’s Internal Complaints Committee, no action was taken. After days of peaceful protest, she self-immolated outside the principal’s office on July 12 and died on July 14 at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The incident has sparked massive outrage, with both the accused professor and the college principal now under arrest.
