The 2025 Suzuki DR-Z4SM represents the long-awaited evolution of Suzuki’s street-legal supermoto, blending modern upgrades with the playful character that made the DR-Z series a cult favorite. At the heart of the DR-Z4SM is a 398cc liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder engine. For the first time, fuel injection replaces the carbureted setup, improving throttle response and consistency. The engine is the exact some unit powering the DR-Z4S dual-sport, utilizing the same five-speed gearbox while longer gearing is installed on the SM variant. While the dual-sport can make do with a five-speed, there are higher-speed situations where a sixth gear would be nice. Riders now have access to selectable ride modes, adjustable traction control, and switchable rear ABS, adding adaptability across varied riding conditions. Suzuki developed a new twin-spar steel frame for the DR-Z4SM paired with an aluminum subframe and swingarm to balance rigidity and achieve its light, flickable handling. Suspension is provided by KYB featuring adjustable damping on the fork and backed by a fully adjustable shock. With 10.2 inches of front travel and 10.9 inches in the rear, the DR-Z4SM is tuned specifically for supermoto handling. Seventeen-inch tube-type wire-spoke wheels and a larger front brake rotor contribute to quick stopping power and precise control in tight urban or canyon settings. On the road, the 2025 DR-Z4SM remains agile and responsive. Wide motocross-style handlebars and sharp steering geometry make cornering intuitive, while the suspension smooths out rough pavement and city obstacles. The ergonomics are tall and slightly forward, with a slim seat that gives riders freedom of movement. Although vibration is present through the bench-style seat, the riding position enhances control and connection to the bike. The Suzuki DR-Z4SM delivers a balance of modern technology and classic supermoto excitement.
