There is an old saying - Imitation is the greatest form of flattery...but it is also a HIGHLY effective marketing strategy. WIthin almost every market, copycat products undercut the market leader by cutting corners or offering additional benefits to the consumer. Think about all the iPod clones you saw at one point, all with lower prices, and similar functionality (at least on the surface). The YAQI TILE razor (and many of their products, like the Raster and Excalibur) fall into this category, and at first glance may seem like an equal product to their market leader - IE Henson. But under close examination, you can see that while they designed the razor aesthetically similar, the same "shave science" that makes the Henson great is missing from the Tile. The blade bar does not contact the actual blade as it does on the Henson, so it does not attain the same blade torque or blade angle. This oversight (or perhaps it was too difficult to machine) makes the razor much less smooth swipe per swipe, while also increases the blade feel and chatter on the skin (something that is nearly non-existent on a REAL Henson). Another issue that is COMMONLY talked about with this razor is the WILD, OUT OF THIS WORLD, tolerances that they shipped with. Some razor caps with UNEVEN blade exposure ARE IN USE - while others (that I have personally seen) are the same on both sides. YAQI apparently has told some users that their TILE head now has a Mild side and Medium side...but that language is missing on their website if it is indeed true; and if it is, why are some the same? Why isnt one side marked? Was this a manufacturing change? I doubt highly this will ever be fully disclosed or explained. My best guess - is they realized they couldn't make them uniform like Henson (as it is QUITE a bit of work) so they went a different route mid-production. One last shortcoming of the Tile is the corners. Understandably, every Henson I've ever felt has had somewhat SHARP little blade bar corners, but since the YAQI Tile is raw material - they were VERY sharp. My good friend actually took a dremel to the one I used above, and I actually liked this MORE than even my Henson. The rounded, more finished corners enhanced the comfort, and reduced the suction feel even further. DEFINITELY something to consider if you own one of these. The actual shave was...overall pretty good - but I don't know if I would recommend anyone buy one...when every razor coming out is vastly different.
