Hi, it's Connie. Zao Onsen Ski Resort is one of the most popular destinations in Yamagata. But let me give you a heads-up before you start watching the clip. If you're expecting to see wild techniques, jumps, and stuff like that, this isn't for you. This is a video of me, a maybe-goes-skiing-once-or-twice-every-other-year skier shooting the beautiful view as I somehow managed not to fall. The day we went to Zao was a weekday, so we pretty much had the slopes to ourselves. In Yamagata, skiing is part of elementary school PE programs. Every year, the children go on a class trip to Zao and practice skiing, so I think it's safe to say that people who grew up in Yamagata can ski to some degree. (We stuck to the beginner and intermediate level courses.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ **ACCESS INFORMATION In the winter, Zao is about a 40-minute drive away from Yamagata station. Most parking lots are free weekdays and 1000 yen per car on weekends and holidays. You can also take the Z90 bus from Yamagata station.
