The title consists of the kanji used in "spoil", "ruin", or literally "eaten by worms" and the one used in "red lipstick". So the title might be something like "spoiled/ruined red", with the nuance of the red being lipstick-red. For anyone who can read it, I imagine it something like this: 蝕(んだ口)紅 Translation by me. Annotations: "Kagome inside the cage" - Okay, so there's a lot to explain here. Kagome is a female name (although a bit rare in real life. I read through some forums and when people write that they're thinking about naming their child that, responses that I see a lot go something like "Cute name! Is it from Inu Yasha?"). But the reason this name is in the song is because of a Japanese children's game called "Kagome Kagome". It goes like this: Kagome, Kagome The bird inside the cage When, oh when will it come out In the night of dawn The crane and turtle slipped Who is standing behind you? As you can see, the first three lines plus the last line are part of the lyrics of Shokubeni. Kyo however used the kanji for "cage" and "woman" for the name "Kagome" in his lyrics (I keep saying name, but it should also be mentioned that in the children's song "Kagome" is using different kanji and is probably referencing the holes in the cage). The children's game itself goes as follows: One of the children is the demon. The demon closes its eyes and sits in the middle. The other children go around the demon in a circle and chant the song. When the song ends they stop and the demon has to guess who is standing behind them. Notice how the one "encaged" is actually the demon itself? Food for thought. "Tomorrow again, the night will bring hell" - I decided to translate this a little more loosely. Also, Kyo took apart the characters that would usually make up the word "hell" and stretch it out, kind of like saying "the infernal regions" or something like that instead of just saying "hell". However, I found no fitting translation that is very close to how Kyo put it and also commonly used in English, so I left it at "hell". --------------- I do not own Dir En Grey or any of their music or performances.
