In a world where so much is handed to students ready-made, it’s easy for their curiosity, creativity and independent thinking to fade into the background. Yet these are exactly the skills our students need. In this lively, practical session, you’ll experience a range of activities that help students develop their critical thinking and creative expression in the classroom. We’ll explore simple ways to take everyday coursebook material and add a twist that boosts engagement, motivation and genuine thinking. Expect a mix of low-prep tasks and creative digital ideas you can take straight back to the classroom. Relatrice Emma Heyderman has been in ELT since 1989, working for several schools, including Lacunza – International House, San Sebastian, the Bell School, Regents Park and the University of the Arts in Westminster. An experienced ELT writer, Emma’s titles include Interface and Get Involved for Macmillan. She runs workshops for local teachers, she is a teacher trainer for NILE (Norwich Institute for Language Education) and she is also a regular speaker at national and international events.
