Today I try four wonderful alpine cheeses. The incredible Appenzeller Surchoix from Appenzellerland in Switzerland with it huge 700 year history and pokey rind. From the Jura Massif region in Eastern France with over 1000 years of history comes the epic Special Reserve Comté, aged for no less than 24 months! From Fribourg, Switzerland, the quintessential alpine cheese Le Crêt Gruyere is a cheese that is often imitated but seldom matched. And finally, from England of all places, the amazing Lincolnshire Poacher. Made on a single farm in the village of Ulceby, this cheese is aged for a whopping 18 months and is cleverly made using a mixture of techniques.
