Scuba Idaho spent a week diving the Red Sea aboard the Agressor 2 Tranquility Live Aboard Diving Yacht in November of 2025. The SS Thistlegorm is a famous shipwreck located in the Red Sea near Ras Muhammad in Egypt. It was a British armed Merchant Navy ship that was sunk by German bombers in World War II on October 6, 1941. The wreck lies at a depth of around 30 meters (100 feet) with the top of the wreck at around 15-18 meters (50-60 feet). It is one of the most popular dive sites in the world due to its accessibility, visibility, and the abundance of artifacts that can be found both on and inside the wreck. Diving the Thistlegorm is suitable for advanced divers due to its depth, but penetration into the wreck should only be attempted by wreck diver certified individuals. The wreck is packed with motorcycles, trucks, ammunition, and other war supplies, making it a fascinating underwater museum. Currents can be strong at times, and the dive is usually done from a liveaboard boat as it's located a few hours' sail from Sharm El Sheikh. The best time to dive the Thistlegorm is from May to September when the weather conditions are the most favorable.
