In this quick video, I’m showing how I attach timber battens and wall panels to the top section of my Hiace without drilling straight through the van wall. The metal ribs in this area are only about 10mm deep — so if you’re not careful, you’ll over-penetrate and put a hole through the outside of your van 😬 I walk through: Finding (or cutting) screws to the perfect length Fixing timber battens to shallow ribs Gluing and mounting your final wall panel Showing the full panel installation and the finished result You’ll also see a quick before and after of this section - and how it turned out after paint and panel install. This trick works for any van where you’re working with tight tolerances on wall structure. ⚒️ Tools & Materials Used: – Self-tapping metal screws (trimmed with grinder if needed) – Timber battens (I use Marine Plywood) – Construction adhesive (sikaflex) – Drill, pilot bit, (Possibly a grinder to shorten screws) – Your Prepared Wall Panel 🎥 Want more DIY van building tips like this? 👉 Check out the full Toyota Hiace build series: • HiAce Conversion Cheers guys — catch ya on the next one! #vanconversion #vanbuild #DIY #campervan #hiace #toyotahiace #howto #vanwalls #journeyvanbuilds
