Various shots of crash scene STORYLINE At least 12 people were killed late Monday when a bus carrying tourists from Turkey ran off the road and crashed into a ravine, officials said. Police said six people were critically injured, including the Italian bus driver. Earlier fire department official Guide Parisi told AP Television News, "For the moment there are 12 dead, six men and six women, and four seriously injured." The bus was carrying about 30 people, some of whom suffered serious injuries, police said. The bus crashed shortly after 11 p.m. (1000 GMT) when the tourists were on their way back to their hotel after going out for dinner. The ANSA news agency said the Italian bus driver was one of the four people injured critically. The bus reportedly was one of eight carrying a total of about 350 people - all of them Ford auto dealers from Turkey. Rome's mayor said he would assist the Turkish authorities in any way they needed. "They can count on us. We will together follow what happens over the next few hours. All the needs as far as taking the bodies back to their country, and any help needed for those that are here that are wounded. Everything that we can do as a country, we will do," said Mayor Walter Veltroni. Parisi said the bus had fallen ten metres into a garden "head first" and an investigation is taking place.
