Jailed For Murdering 'Honesty' | Bihar Government Prostrates Before Don Anand Mohan |Newshour Agenda

In this episode of The Newshour Agenda, the host Padmaja Joshi will discuss how previously, Nitish Kumar and Anand Mohan Singh were viewed as representatives of the two opposing political ideologies in Bihar. But both caste and power are excellent levellers. Anand Mohan, a former member of parliament serving a life sentence for murder, is thus expected to leave jail a few days after a change was made to the Bihar Jail Manuals by the administration led by Nitish Kumar. Anand Mohan, a well-known upper caste leader from the Kosi region, has been a part of a number of political parties in the state. Nitish had gone to Chetan's engagement party the day before it was announced that 26 inmates, including Anand Mohan, were eligible for early release as a result of the jail manual revision. The phrase "murder of a public servant on duty" was removed from the list of crimes for which an accused person may not be eligible for early release before serving 20 years of their sentence. Anand Mohan was found guilty of murder in 2007, following the lynching of Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah by a mob. Ironically, the conviction was applauded at the time as a symbol of progress in Bihar under Nitish, of quick trials and a crackdown on musclemen politicians — following the RJD's lengthy dominance, which was characterised by lawlessness.
