Inoculating your Garden with Indigenous Microorganisms! Compost Tea | Live Big #65

Lovingly stirring her tub of compost tea, Grace gives us a lesson in how to inoculate your garden with Indigenous microorganisms. She tells us that her tea has been brewing for 24 hours and now it is ready for use. Recounting her process she says that first she filled her reservoir with 40 gallons of water. Then she put four pounds of fresh compost mixed with golden cane sugar into a pillow case with an aquarium aerator, tied it up and placed it into the water and weighted it down with a rock. She says that the sugar is what feeds the microorganisms in the compost and that the point of the compost tea is to cause the microorganisms to reproduce so that they can be spread around the garden for the overall health of the plants. She let this brew for a bout 20 minutes and then added Fish amino acid made on the farm, Cal/Phos powder an organic mining product, and ocean water for minerals. She explains that the aeration is important because it adds oxygen which is critical for the cultivation of microorganisms. She says that she then stirred the tea every few hours to add ia little extra love to the brew. Grace likes to integrate rituals into the garden in order to add intention to the work she does and decided to add some flowers to the tea and say some prayers for the new moon. She adds that the flowers she added are cosmos which are a type of marigold which also work homepathically towards pest prevention, a double whammy! She shows us how she dunks in the watering can and fills it and then waters the garden with it. Grace says this is best done in the morning before it gets too hot and ideally to agraden which has already been watered so that the microorganisms can go from an aqueous environment to another moist environment and flourish.
