🍊Squeeze The Orange, making bioplastics from orange peels Squeeze The Orange is a project by Susana Jurado, Elisenda Jaquemot and Nuria Bonet, created in response to the open call, Remix el Barrio, by SISCODE - El Barri Circular, to reimagine what is possible to make with locally produced food waste. Susana, Elisenda and Nuria used orange peel to create a new bioplastic textile which could be used in a similar application to leather. This recipe is easy to follow and with the right ingredients and equipment can be done in your home kitchen! ✍️Ingredients: 20g wool fiber 5L water 120g orange peel Calcium Chloride 125g sodium alginate 421g glycerin 56g coconut oil ✍️Equipment: Strainer Scale Spatula Shredder Scissors Frame Cooking pot Funnel SISCODE is an EU research project consisting of 10 labs and makerspaces across Europe – ‘El Barri Circular’ being the pilot of Fab Lab Barcelona. Remix El Barrio, an initiative from El Barri Circular, looks to understand how we might reimagine food waste in our local neighbourhood of Poblenou. This highlighted recipe is one of nine featured during an exhibition of designers and makers transforming food waste into new biomaterials. At Fab Lab Barcelona, our research areas look to further explore the role of maker spaces in creating a more circular economy - thinking global, acting local. 👀Check our some of our related research and education programs below. 👉SISCODE- El Barri Circular: https://fablabbcn.org/projects/siscod... 👉SISCODE - Remix el Barrio: https://fablabbcn.org/projects/siscod... 👉Exposición Remix el Barrio: https://fablabbcn.org/calendar/exposi... 👉Biomaterials 101 Blog Post: https://fablabbcn.org/blog/emergent-i... 👉Fabricademy: https://fablabbcn.org/education/acade...
