It wasn't that long ago that a ute / pick-up would generally be considered a work vehicle and nothing more. Oh, how times have changed, so much so that the 2024 Ford Ranger has added another string to its bow in the form of a new non-Raptor flagship, the aptly named and luxury-focused Platinum. The Platinum nameplate may be new to the Ranger, but it's not new to Ford, which continues to use it on the mechanically related Everest large SUV to this day. Needless to say, the high-end similarities between the new Ranger Platinum and the established Everest Platinum are numerous. But does Australia really need a premium alternative to the Toyota HiLux? It didn't work out so well for the Mercedes-Benz X-Class, after all.
