In the scenic hills of Dima Hasao district in Assam, often called the “Switzerland of Assam”, a major transformation is underway through the development of National Highway-27. Stretching 3,507 km from Gujarat to Silchar, NH-27 is one of India’s longest highways and a vital corridor connecting the Northeastern states with the rest of the country. The section between Narimbanglo, Jatinga Junction and Harangajao plays a crucial role in linking Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram to Guwahati, strengthening regional connectivity and economic integration. Before this development, travelling just 100 km could take 7–8 hours due to difficult terrain and poor road conditions. Farmers and traders struggled to transport their produce to markets, limiting economic opportunities. Once completed, NH-27 will significantly improve travel time, strengthen access to markets, healthcare and education, and boost eco-tourism and regional economic growth across the hills of Assam and the wider Northeast.
