Thanks! ------------------------- Many Japanese businessmen enjoy drinking beer and other alcoholic beverages, especially after a long day at the office. Beer cans are commonly found in convenience and supermarket stores. But what if the nearest convenience stores is at least a 10-minute walk from your current location? Beer vending machines come to the rescue in this situation. Typically, these vending machines serve alcoholic beverages such as beer cans and sake (rice wine). As long as the alcoholic beverages are from the same brand, a vending machine can hold a variety of them. Kirin, for example, has its own vending machine from which you can only purchase Kirin goods. This is the typical configuration, although there are also liquor vendo's that sell a variety of other drinks from various manufacturers. How to Use a Vending Machine in Japan? 1. Insert Your Payment The most important thing to remember while using vending machines in Japan is that you must first insert your payment. The lights on the vending machine will turn on once you've done so. 1,000 yen bills, 500 yen, 100 yen coins, and 10 yen coins are accepted by vending machines. You can't use 5 yen or 1 yen coins or bills of other denominations. 2. Choose your Beverage After inserting payment, select which beverage you want by pushing the button underneath. 3. Don't Forget Your Change! Grab your selected drink from the bottom of the machine and take your change after selecting it. People frequently forget their change, but as the coins fall into the change tray and make a noise when they fall. This is Chris, the beer drinking expat living in Japan for a long long time.
