A thousand-year history has shaped this splendid Bavarian city - the first news dates back to the year 902 when "castrum Babenberg" had a few hundred inhabitants, now about 70,000 - in the palaces, in the churches, in the streets: they immediately attract the visitor's attention the imposing cathedral with its four bell towers and the Altes Rathaus (old town hall), anchored like a ship in the middle of the Regnitz, one of the rivers that crosses Bamberg. The oldest part of the city stands on seven hills, each of which offers a postcard image, and among the best I recommend the Michaelsberg. One of the main monuments is, as already reported above, the Dom, consecrated in 1012 and subsequently subjected to new works, completed in 1237.
