2022 Ardennen

BMW K1300GT - a Two day Motor Trip to Belgium (Ardennen), Germany (Eifel) and Luxemburg (Ardennen). All around about a 1000km (600mls) tour through the woods, rivers and small historic cities. The Ardennes, situated in the south-east of Belgium and the north of Luxembourg, are one of nature's unspoilt areas, rich in fauna and flora, with vast forests of broadleaf and fir, hills and fast flowing rivers. Visitors can wander through the many picturesque villages nestling in the valleys where traditions and folklore still live on, and where the region's arts and crafts can be enjoyed. Springtime in the Ardennes is the season for walking, cycling, fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Horse riding, climbing and mountain biking are other examples of popular sports in the Ardennes. The keen mountaineer has an exciting choice of challenges. In Winter, the Ardennes are a fun paradise for downhill and cross country skiers, or perhaps you prefer tobogganing and snow scooter racing. There is action, even underground. Some of the caves are certainly worth a visit. The Eifel National Park, which was founded in 2004 and spans some 110 square kilometres, is still classed as a “National Park in development”. Conservation areas within this category have thirty years to allow at least three quarters of the area to return to nature – it is only then that they fulfil the international National Park criteria. And over half of the area is already operating in line with the National Park motto “Let nature be nature”; in other words, humans are leaving nature to live by its own rules. This allows thousands of endangered animal and plant species to propagate in the special and newly created habitats. Thus, rare animal species like black storks, Eurasian eagle owls and wild cats can find the safe havens vital to their survival in the Eifel National Park. Protecting the natural environment, including these habitats and their inhabitants is the main objective of the Eifel National Park. Enjoy!
