Traditionally made and enjoyed in rural villages, this flavorful mix is cherished for its unique taste and shelf life. It is typically prepared using locally available ingredients like pumpkin seeds, bitter gourd seeds, perilla seeds (philangey/silam) and more. To add a spicy and tangy kick, dried Akbare chilies and the sour pulp of lime or lemon are often used. Depending on the region and local taste, the ingredients and methods may vary, giving each version a distinct flavor. Here, I’m happy to share my own way of making this traditional pickle powder with you all.
