N.I.B. - 45:52 Genre: Rock Style: Stoner Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Heavy Metal One of the more obscure Acid Mothers Temple side-bands, and my favorite of the bunch. Being the core quartet of AMT (Makoto Kawabata, Hiroshi Higashi, Mitsuru Tabata, Okano Futoshi), Space Paranoid takes their heavy psychedelic riffing to the brink, releasing an album called ‘Black Magic Satori’ which was directly inspired by Black Sabbath. This live record (recorded on December 23rd, 2013 at Chaotic Noise in Kohi, Japan) pushes that even further by consisting solely of Black Sabbath covers, done up in the signature AMT style. For the uninitiated, this means that these covers are pushed and stretched in fields of psychedelic noise, shredding, and deep abstraction. It’s a rare treat to hear the band be this direct and purely heavy in their riffing, which is a real treat for those who like it when Kawabata goes all out in the riff department. As far as I can tell, this specific version of AMT has been inactive since about 2015, which I think is a real shame. I hope one day Makoto Kawabata decides to reactivate Space Paranoid and dive back into this truly unique combination of influences, because not much else sounds like this, even in the broader AMT catalogue.
