A gray outcome in Battaglia: 15-1 Great White holds off Fulleffort

Great White, a 15-1 shot making his third career start and following a fifth-place in the Leonatus, tracked the early pace under Alex Achard, drew off in the stretch and then held off the late-running Leonatus runner-up Fulleffort to win Saturday night's $175,000 John Battaglia Memorial Stakes by a neck at Turfway Park. Owned by breeder Three Chimneys and trainer John Ennis, the victory gave Great White 20 points toward Kentucky Derby qualification, with Ennis saying Turfway's G3 Jeff Ruby or Keeneland's Grade 1 Toyota Blue Grass will be the next target. The media spoke with Achard and the Lexington-based Ennis after the race.
