Even though Sonic was born in the 16-bit era of games and we have seen him pixelated, it's just much different to see him pixelated in 3D. Sonic Superstars is 2D platformer released by Sega in 2023 for all major platforms in the eighth and ninth generations of consoles. Developed by Arzest with some support from Sonic Team, Sonic Superstars was originally conceived as a sequel to Sonic Mania until it was later repurposed to what Sonic Superstars game to be today. Superstars is a return to the classic 2D style of gameplay that Sonic was renowned for back in the 90s and in Sonic Mania, but with a twist as the art style sees a shift from the iconic retro pixelated looks the classic Sonic games typically have to a modern 2.5D look. The game has also been modernized with features like removing the lives system, introducing a world map that players can use to move between levels, some light customization aspects with the robotic avatar creator, and for the first time, you can play up to four players in the main story with a few characters to choose from. If you love classic Sonic, then this is the game for you as it plays just like Sonic Mania. The story of Sonic Superstars sees Sonic and his friends travel to the Northstar Islands to stop Dr. Eggman, who has enlisted the services of Fang the Weasel, from turning the island's inhabitants into Badniks and from collecting the seven Chaos Emeralds so he can achieve world domination. Grab your friends and put on your adventure hats, as we explore the mysterious archipelago of the Northstar Islands as we once again try to stop Dr. Eggman from trying to conquer the world once again!
