I made this video in the wake of a rupture. Not from a place of authority or expertise, but from a place of discomfort—of dissonance I couldn't sit with. A meditation through paint and voice—on what we’ve lost, what we remember, and the stories art history refuses to tell. There are many people who’ve been doing this work—far more deeply, rigorously, and expansively than I ever could. Please explore the selected resources below and spend time with the incredible minds who continue to challenge, reframe, and remember: Okwui Enwezor • Selected Writings, Vols. 1 & 2: Toward a New African Art Discourse / Curating the Postcolonial Condition – A foundational two-volume collection of Enwezor’s essays, catalogs, and interviews • Key exhibitions: Documenta 11 (2002), The Short Century (2001), In/Sight: African Photographers (1996) Sylvia Wynter • On Being Human as Praxis (ed. Katherine McKittrick, 2015) – A vital genealogy of Wynter’s radical thinking • “Unsettling the Coloniality of Being/Power/Truth/Freedom” – A pivotal essay critiquing Western epistemologies and proposing a new conception of the human Linda Tuhiwai Smith • Decolonizing Methodologies: Research and Indigenous Peoples – A groundbreaking book reframing research through an Indigenous lens (1999, updated 2012 & 2021) Red de Conceptualismos del Sur (RedCSur) • Wikipedia / Profile – Overview of their Latin American and Global South curatorial/archival work • Declaración Instituyente (Manifesto) – Their founding document outlining political commitments and epistemic values Additional Resources • Okwui Enwezor: A Literary Appreciation — Frieze article on his intellectual legacy • Sylvia Wynter interview – Stanford Historical Society – Reflections on her life and work --------------- Website & Shop: https://www.maraadina.com/ Click here for works available: https://www.maraadina.com/category/oi...
