From TikTok Brain to Deep Work: Fixing My Short Attention Span

Going outside to train | Day#40 - Summer 2025 Ai summary: Hey, bro, let's talk about something I've been struggling with: having a short attention span. I noticed I couldn't watch long YouTube tutorials, like the ones for learning After Effects or drawing, without wanting to leave after just a couple of minutes. It feels like ADHD, but it's really just a short attention span that I had to fix. The Cause and the Fix The biggest culprit is short-form content: TikToks, Shorts, and Reels. When I tried to use them less, it was like battling an addiction. I started having withdrawal symptoms—literally getting headaches and feeling depressed and empty, with a constant urge to scroll mindlessly. It took a few weeks of resisting the temptation every day, but eventually, the headaches stopped and the brain fog started to clear. My next step was building up the courage to delete the apps and install a modded YouTube to remove the Shorts. Now, my attention span has improved; I can watch a 10-minute video. Other Dopamine Traps and Fear It's not just social media, though. Other things that give you an intense dopamine rush in seconds, like video games and porn, are also making it hard to concentrate on difficult, low-dopamine activities like learning a new language or how to sing. You'll get bored fast because you aren't getting that quick rush. This links to fear. For example, I wanted to be a singer, but what stopped me wasn't a bad voice—it was the fear of not believing I could do it. Fear is just an emotion, and there's a stronger emotion to fight it: discipline. The Double Edge of Discipline Discipline is doing things you hate—like waking up at 5 a.m. for a run or taking cold showers—because you know you'll get results later. But discipline has a dark side: burnout. When you do stressful, hard activities like video editing or learning a new skill for hours every day without a quick reward or compensation, your brain starts asking, "Where's the dopamine?". This leads to feeling empty, depressed, and burned out. I cope with this by prioritizing recovery: sleeping eight hours and going outside to train to relieve the brain fog. Brain fog is a huge obstacle—it’s what makes you procrastinate, saying, "I'll do it tomorrow," even when you have an idea. My Commitment to the Dream I realized the solution lies in a problem-solving approach. Your brain is a problem-solving machine. You just need to write down the objective clearly. My solution is waking up at 5 a.m. and doing deep work until 10 a.m.. At that time, there are no distractions—everyone's asleep, and it's quiet. It's tough, especially when people, even your family, tell you to stop because they think you're "losing your mind" by waking early or speaking to a camera. But I don't care. It's my dream, and I'm committed to it until I die. Working on your dream gives you a purpose and an objective when you wake up: be productive, make a video, and learn something new. Self-improvements are honestly the best thing you can do for your life—work out, study, and get enough sleep, and you'll be happier, stronger, and smarter. I'm done for today, bro. I hope this helps you focus on your own goals. Have a great day, and don't forget to subscribe!
