This watercolor tutorial demonstrates the artistic painting process of creating water lilies using Jackson Aquarelle water-soluble wax pastels. We explore unique art techniques, showing how to achieve delicate details and subtle light effects. Perfect for watercolor for beginners, this guide on how to paint flowers provides insights into blending colors with a water brush after applying the dry pigment, activating the pastels' watercolor properties for a stunning final piece, using Jackson Aquarelle water-soluble wax pastels. Today I painted water lilies. I felt the need to slow down. To focus on something quiet and calm. Water lilies on the surface often feel subtle. But when you look longer, you notice how many fine details they hold. That is what draws me to them. They are peaceful, yet never the same. Light slides across them differently each moment, and the water beneath is always alive. While painting, I realized how hard it is to capture water lilies. It is not only about the shape of the flower or the leaves. It is about the relationship between water, light, and color. About how gently everything blends together. That is why I chose Jaxon Aquarell water-soluble wax pastels. I applied the color dry at first. At that stage, it did not look like watercolor painting at all. It felt more like a drawing full of colored marks and lines. The change came when I picked up the brush and water. The water released the pigment from the wax layer, and the colors began to flow across the paper. Soft transitions appeared. Calmer areas. A clear sense of water. Technically, this is not classic watercolor, since the binder is wax, not gum arabic. Still, the result feels very watercolor art in mood and softness, which is what I wanted for this subject. In the painting, I focused on a pink water lily placed slightly to the right of the center. The flower is open, with several layers of petals. The outer petals are pale pink, almost light in places. Toward the center, the color becomes richer. The middle is yellow, warm and bright, like a gentle source of light. Around the flower are green lily pads. Some are whole, others have the typical cut. I hinted at small water drops on the leaves. They reflect light and add freshness. The background is the water surface in blue-green and turquoise tones. The color is uneven. Layered. Darker in some places, lighter in others, which gives a sense of movement. The shadow beneath the flower is suggested with deeper blue and violet tones. The view is from above, as if looking straight down into a pond. The mood is calm, quiet, and slightly dreamy. A truly relaxing painting experience. I worked with dry application first, then softened everything with water. I painted in layers, from light to dark. Some leaf edges stayed sharp. Others were left to blur freely. The paper texture shows through in places, especially in the water, where I let the paint move on its own. I used the brush gently, without pressure, to keep the transitions soft. It feels close to wet on wet watercolor, even with pastels. I also see a few flaws. Some leaves could have a better shape and perspective. In one spot, the green is too dark and feels heavy. The shadow under the flower is uneven and could be softer. Some water transitions needed more patience and fewer brush touches. Still, I feel good about this piece. The water lily feels delicate, and the water stays calm. If I painted it again, I would watch light and shadow values more closely and slow down even more on the water. I see it as another step in learning. A quiet record of a moment when I simply wanted to paint and be present. #watercolor #waterlily #waterlilies #waxpastels #relaxingart #calmpainting #pondpainting #waterart #softcolors #creativeprocess✍️ AUTHENTICITY & TOOLS The content of this video is based on my personal experience, study, and practice.
