A big vehicle that carries many people on roads. It stops often. • We say: go by bus, take a bus, get on/off the bus • Example: "I take a bus to school every day." Coach (/kəʊtʃ/) • What is it? A comfortable bus for long trips, like to another city. It often has a toilet. • We say: go by coach, take a coach • Example: "We took a coach to London." Bicycle (Bike) (/ˈbaɪsɪkl/) • What is it? A vehicle with two wheels. You use your feet to make it go. • We say: go by bike, ride a bike • Example: "It's healthy to ride a bike." Moped (/ˈməʊped/) • What is it? A small motorcycle with an engine. It is not very fast. • We say: go by moped, ride a moped • Example: "In some cities, it's popular to ride a moped." Tram (/træm/) • What is it? An electric vehicle that carries many people. It moves on tracks in the city streets. • We say: go by tram, take a tram, get on/off the tram • Example: "You can take a tram to the city centre." On the Water Ferry (/ˈferi/) • What is it? A boat that carries people and cars across a short piece of water. • We say: go by ferry, take a ferry • Example: "We took a ferry to the island." Yacht (/jɒt/) • What is it? A large, expensive boat with sails or an engine, used for pleasure or racing. • We say: sail a yacht, go on a yacht • Example: "They sail a yacht on the sea in summer." Narrowboat (/ˈnærəʊbəʊt/) • What is it? A long, thin boat used on canals (small rivers made by people). • We say: go by narrowboat, travel on a narrowboat • Example: "A holiday on a narrowboat is very relaxing." Gondola (/ˈɡɒndələ/) • What is it? A long, narrow boat with a flat bottom. It is famous in Venice, Italy. One person uses a pole to move it. • We say: ride in a gondola • Example: "Tourists love to ride in a gondola in Venice." In the Air and on Rails Plane (/pleɪn/) • What is it? A vehicle with wings that flies in the sky. It carries people and things over long distances. • We say: go by plane, fly on a plane, take a plane • Example: "We flew on a plane to Spain for our holiday." Cable Car (/ˈkeɪbəl kɑː(r)/) • What is it? A small vehicle that hangs from a strong cable and moves up a mountain. • We say: go by cable car, take a cable car • Example: "We took the cable car to the top of the mountain." Monorail (/ˈmɒnəʊreɪl/) • What is it?
