MONROE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA — Three people died and more than a dozen were wounded when a tractor trailer slammed into a charter bus and split in half along Interstate 380 in the Pocono Mountain region in Pennsylvania. A tour bus traveling from New York City to Niagara falls was carrying 17 Italian passengers Wednesday morning, when a tractor trailer traveling the opposite direction crossed the grassy median and hit the bus head-on. "I heard a big crash," Johnny Walsh, who lives by the highway, told News Channel 4. "All of a sudden, people were screaming." The front of the tractor trailer completely detached from the back and ended up on its side, at the edge of the woods. The driver of the bus and two passengers were confirmed dead. The driver was later identified as Franklin Wyatt of Oklahoma. Wyatt drove for Academy Bus, which chartered the bus out to Italian tour company Viaggidea. Four other passengers were severely injured and life flighted to two branches of Geisinger Hospital. Geisinger Media later tweeted three were stable and one was in critical condition. The driver of the tractor trailer survived the accident.
