The Rittreck View 5x7 large format camera is designed with a removable back, and there are several options for using different film (and glass plate) formats and holders. Most common is the 4x5 back but others are available all the way to 8x10. This video looks at making photographs at Sydney Olympic Park with the 4x5, 5x7 and 6½x8½ (Whole Plate) backs and Shanghai GP3 100 film, with a multicoated Fujinon NSW 125mm f8 lens. Whole Plate 6½x8½ inches is an old format from the glass plate days of photography, along with half and quarter plate sizes (among others, it's complicated and was not standardised). These "plate" formats were replaced by 4x5, 5x7 and 8x10 in the early 20th century everywhere except for Japan, where whole and half remained a popular format for studio and street portrait photographers up until the late 1960s or early 1970s. Whole plate film is still being made, but options are few. Shanghai cuts their GP3 100 film to whole plate (as well as half and quarter plate sizes) and it seems to be available all year round, while Ilford will cut whole plate once a year in their ULF program if there is enough demand. At the moment there doesn't appear to be any colour film available in the format. Processing Whole Plate 6½x8½ inch sheet film can be done in trays (anything can be done in trays) however a Chinese company named Poilot makes a developing reel system that can easily be modified to process 3 sheets in a JOBO or equivalent 2550 daylight developing tank. I'm using this system with continuous process and getting good results.
