The Radio Forth Youth Orchestra, 1978. This recording was donated to STOPS from the personal archive of Society co-founder the late Gordon Lucas who, along with society co-founder Larry McGuire, had the idea of promoting young musicians of all types, and in 1978 founded the ‘Radio Forth Youth Orchestra’, with the invaluable assistance of Edinburgh music teacher and organist, Miss Lindsay Sinclair. The resulting programme was broadcast on Radio Forth, in the days when it was a truly Local Radio Station and presented multiple and varied programmes of local interest. The programme was introduced by Richard Findlay, the then Radio Forth Managing Director, presented by Charles Mercer, who at that time hosted a classical music programme on a Sunday evening. The recording engineer was Graham Warman, with assistance from producer Gordon Lucas and technician Larry McGuire, using the ‘Outside Broadcast Vehicle’ which Radio Forth had at that time. The recording was done in the Andrew Morton Hall of Leith Town Halls (now Leith Theatre) in a single evening. This is an interesting link to Radio Forth as it was then - https://www.transdiffusion.org/2017/1... and Gordon Lucas’ obituary from the Scotsman of 10th June 2002 is at https://www.scotsman.com/news/obituar...
