STATS: Run Name: Chamoix Lift Taken: Cornice Express Rating: Double Black Diamond Maximum Pitch: 39 degrees Length: 0.2 mi. Vertical Drop: 388 feet DESCRIPTION: Chamoix is a pretty well-known double black diamond at Kirkwood. Most know of the Upper Entrance (Upper Chamoix) for having a ridiculously steep cornice drop onto a cliff that needs a lot of snow to fill out (I point out this chute in the video). This run is known as “Upper Chamoix” and is what most people call “Chamoix”. However, this isn’t the case when looking at the trail map or FATMAP (see video) as both claim the run I do in the video to be "Chamoix". Back to this run, it’s one of the narrowest chutes I've done. According to FATMAP, it reaches a maximum pitch of 39 degrees. It seems that I start to struggle on terrain that reaches a pitch of around 40 degrees and above as I experienced similar results of not being able to turn in some spots in other runs (hence the long slides). I’m not exactly super thrilled with how I skied this chute, but I’m happy I got down it and made a few decent turns. I learned a lot from skiing this chute as well as others around 40 degrees (mainly that my turning ability on these steeper pitches need a lot of work!).There’s definitely a huge learning curve for me if I want to retry this run and do a better job, and hopefully I can get there next time I reattempt this one! I'm not trying to make any excuse about my performance. I'm just trying to acknowledge that I'm aware of how my skiing on this run wasn't at all my best, and how I wish to grow and improve significantly in the future! As for Upper Chamoix, there’s pretty much a 0.001% chance I’ll ever attempt that. Some things are just left to admire than conquer 😂 TIMESTAMPS: 0:00 - Visual Representation of where Chamoix is on a Map 0:10 - Traverse to Chamoix 0:54 - Chamoix 2:03 - View of Upper Chamoix 2:13 - Chamoix Chute continued 3:22 - Fireball Chute (Skiers' Left Side) to Stump Run
