Seaton Sluice beach. Popped along to see the remains of the WW2 pill post & tank stoppers exposed by recent storms. Enjoy. 😊 1Love❤️🩹 During World War II, Seaton Sluice served as a critical point for coastal defence on the Northumberland coast due to its proximity to the industrial hubs of Blyth and the River Tyne. Coastal Defences Anti-Tank Blocks: A significant line of concrete anti-tank blocks was installed along the beach and dunes to prevent enemy vehicles from landing and reaching the Vickers armaments factory. Recent storms have occasionally exposed these blocks from beneath the sand. Pillboxes: Defensive structures were built in the area, including a notable pillbox located on "Sandy Island". Air-Raid Shelters: Tunnels originally used for the historic bottleworks were repurposed as air-raid shelters for the local population during the war. Local Impact and Commemoration Military Presence: Over 200 men and women from the small community of Seaton Sluice and Old Hartley served during the conflict. Casualties: The War Memorial on Collywell Bay Road records the names of 27 local individuals who died during the Second World War. Post-War Demolitions: In November 1953, the Royal Engineers carried out unannounced demolitions of abandoned coastal defences in the dunes, causing significant alarm among local residents. Visiting Today You can still see remnants of this history at: The War Memorial: Located on the Green near West Terrace, it is Grade II listed. Seaton Sluice Beach: Depending on sand movement, you may see the World War II concrete blocks and the remains of steel rope that once linked them. #followersreelsfypシ゚viralシfypシ゚viralシalシ #followerseveryone #follow #lovelifejourney #ptsdrecovery #mentalhealth #getbackup #GetSupport #gratefulheart #beach #ww2 https://gofund.me/05f847f95 #Followers #mentalhealthrecovery #mentalhealthmatters #getbackup #gratefulheart #lovelifejourney #mentalhealth #followers #contentcreator #drone #everyoneactive #mentalwellbeing #youtube #aerialfootage #amazing #beach #mentalhealth #ptsd
