Our five-day escape to Puerto Vallarta from Houston was the perfect tropical celebration for Kevin’s birthday. We stayed at the stunning Barceló Puerto Vallarta, an all-inclusive resort nestled along the lush southern coast, offering breathtaking views of Banderas Bay and the Sierra Madre mountains. With its beautiful colonial architecture, palm-lined pools, and oceanfront location, the resort was a serene home base for adventure and relaxation. Day 1: Arrival & Oceanfront Welcome We landed in Puerto Vallarta and were quickly transported into vacation mode. After checking into Barceló, we enjoyed a delicious welcome cocktail and explored the resort’s beach and pools. Dinner by the ocean with the sound of waves set the tone for the birthday celebration ahead. Day 2: Mismaloya Beach Exploration A short distance from the resort, Mismaloya Beach offered calm waters, scenic cliffs, and a laid-back vibe. We snorkeled in the clear turquoise waters, soaked up the sun, and tried fresh seafood from local beachside vendors. The kids (and grown-ups) were fascinated by the colorful fish swimming just off the shore. Day 3: Bioluminescent Kayaking Adventure and Zona Romantica Next morning, we took part in an unforgettable bioluminescent kayaking tour. As we paddled through the cold waters under the stars, every stroke lit up the sea with glowing blue sparkles. A magical experience that felt straight out of a dream. Kevin said it was one of the coolest things he'd ever done. Day 4: Whale Watching at Madagascar Beach We headed toward the quieter stretch near Madagascar Beach, where the Pacific Ocean put on an incredible show, breaching humpback whales! We spotted several pods, with mothers and calves surfacing close to the boat. It was awe-inspiring and humbling to witness these giants in their natural habitat. Day 5: Relaxation & Farewell Our final day was spent lounging at the resort, enjoying massages at the spa, and indulging in one last round of tacos, margaritas, and ocean views. The trip ended with a special birthday dinner for Kevin, complete with cake and a serenade from the resort staff.
