The 10th -- 12th September the Mid Hants Railway (or Watercress Line) their Autumn Steam Gala, this year it took upon the theme of the Somerset 7 Dorset railway and featured locomotive classes that would of once ran over the S&D. I've always wanted to visit the Mid Hants so I saw this gala as my chance to give the line a visit and I was not disappointed! Like the Mid Hants the S&D also had steep gradients which seemed perfect to have an S&D themed event with the right locomotives classes, even 44 years after the lines closure from Bath to Bournemouth the feel of the S&D was truly present during this event. The Mid Hants also sought the perfect gust for this gala which took the form of 7F 2-8-0 88 from the West Somerset Railway, this then ran along the Mid Hants fleet of engines, the full line up for the gala was -- | LMS Black 5 No 45379 (Newly restored from scrapyard condition) | SDJR 7F No 88 (Visiting from the West Somerset Railway) | SR 'West Country' Class No 34007 'Wadebridge' | BR 5MT No 73096 | BR 9F No 92212 | Class 62 USA Type 'Yankee Tank' No 30075 (On Shuttle duties) The day started and ended well, all trains were nearly on time but some late due to problems with 30075 to which I heard later in the day she had brake problems. The weather was forecast to be heavy rain but the most we got was a light shower and sunny spells, can never trust the weather man these days! It was also lovely to see 45379 back in steam, well done to the Mid Hants for a fantastic job on her restoration. The days aim was mainly to look round the railway as it was our first visit, also at Ropley a 45 ton Steam crane was doing demonstrations which was nice to see and the railway also ran goods trains which again made the day more interesting. For the day I was joined with theonlyadsrulz, JBTEvans & jamielw143 and thanks for them for a nice day out. Shots in the video are -- 45379 departs Alton with the first service to Alresford Standard 5 73096 arrives into Alton 92212 accelerates away from Alton (seen from the train) 30075 arrives into Alresford with a Shuttle Black 5 45379 departs Alresford with a service to Alton At Alresford 30075 runs round her train 92212 arrives into Ropley 92212 then departs Ropley with a Alton service We see the 45 Ton steam crane in action in Ropley yard 34007 'Wadebridge' passes Ropley with the goods train 88 arrives into Ropley with a Alton service 73096 brings the goods through Medstead & Four Marks At Northside Lane 88 & 73096 climb pass with an Alton service Still at Northside Lane 45379 & 34007 coast downhill towards Alresford 45379 climbs out of Alresford (seen from the train) The Mid Hants is a fantastic line, well worth a visit, definitely going again one day! Enjoy!
