In this EPIC level of detail video we'll go over replacing the turbocharger assembly on the GM Ecotec 1.4L engine, in order to diagnose a failed state inspection due to an exhaust manifold leak noise. The Ecotec 1.4L turbo engine is found in the Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Sonic, Chevrolet Trax and the Buick Encore. We use ONLY genuine GM parts here. The vehicle shown is a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze ECO, but the procedure is applicable to any Chevrolet or Buick from 2011 thru 2021 with the Ecotec 1.4L turbocharged engine with regular production option (RPO) LUJ or LUV. The later RPO LE2 engine is different. The Chevy Trax and Buick Encore will require additional parts removal for access. These 1.4L engines can be found on the following models: Buick Encore 2013 - 2021 Chevrolet Cruze 2011 - 2015 Chevrolet Cruze Limited 2016 Chevrolet Sonic 2012 - 2020 Chevrolet Trax 2013 - 2021 The eBay and Amazon search links below are paid links, for which I may be compensated and earn a commission, if you choose to buy the parts and tools shown in this video thru them: GM 25201063 turbocharger assembly: https://ebay.us/rK4i3t and on https://amzn.to/3DTn6Qn GM 55565348 exhaust manifold gasket: https://ebay.us/pGQNSl or https://amzn.to/3TZLfjd GM 55565352 exhaust manifold nut: https://ebay.us/HzTxhe or https://amzn.to/3tVzWy7 GM 90500560 exhaust manifold stud: https://ebay.us/dHQY9T or https://amzn.to/4aZkMsb GM 25200947 turbocharger oil feed line: https://ebay.us/k1fPHg or https://amzn.to/4aZEg03 GM 25200945 (only if reusing) oil feed line o-ring: https://ebay.us/YOCUtd GM 25198928 (supersedes 55571900) turbocharger coolant line seal: https://ebay.us/2br0aX GM 55567067 turbocharger coolant return line: https://ebay.us/nyMro4 or https://amzn.to/3S1c308 GM 25199813 turbocharger coolant feed line connector: https://ebay.us/goDNqv or https://amzn.to/3U0Kgzs GM 55568031 turbocharger coolant feed line: https://ebay.us/OLYahi or https://amzn.to/3tRkLG6 GM 55587854 turbocharger oil drain pipe: https://ebay.us/XulLQS or https://amzn.to/3Si0cMs GM 55585155 turbocharger oil drain pipe gasket: https://ebay.us/C8vFfP or https://amzn.to/48S2ebD GM 55565351 exhaust v-clamp: https://ebay.us/lAy0G5 or https://amzn.to/3RZF3oL GM 55570704 catalytic converter gasket: https://ebay.us/ymAkoe or https://amzn.to/4aXAcxi GM 90530642 hose clamp: https://ebay.us/shJ8bQ or https://amzn.to/3O2d7zC GM service manual for the Cruze, Sonic, Trax and Encore: https://ebay.us/nluFTR And if I've saved you some $$ here, consider some coins for the coffee tip-jar! https://ko-fi.com/drshock 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 Chevy Cruze Chevy Sonic Chevy Trax Buick Encore Chapters: 0:00 - Problem overview 0:38 - Exhaust manifold leak sound 1:22 - Pre-disassembly tips 2:40 - Heat shield removal 3:52 - Some common turbo problems you can fix 6:31 - Service manual procedure summary 8:27 - Upper air hose removal 9:05 - Crankcase ventilation hose & vacuum line removal 10:32 - Wastegate actuator wiring harness removal 13:06 - Oil lubrication inlet pipe removal 15:15 - Shield stand offs removal 16:12 - Lower air hose removal 18:05 - V-clamp removal 19:25 - Coolant return disconnect / drain 23:28 - Catalytic converter considerations 26:27 - Loosening the catalytic converter fasteners 27:46 - Removing oil lubrication drain tube fasteners 29:44 - Service manual procedure next steps 30:53 - Coolant inlet pipe disconnect 35:00 - Removing exhaust manifold nuts 39:38 - Tip for separating nuts that have pulled out the stud 41:46 - Remove coolant return pipe retaining bolt 43:40 - Removal exhaust manifold gasket 44:14 - Removal of oil lubrication drain tube from engine block 50:00 - Catalytic converter sealing ring removal 50:07 - Exhaust leak diagnosis 53:03 - Further turbocharger unit disassembly 56:45 - Cost estimates 56:56 - Keep/Discard parts tips - New GM part numbers 1:04:11 - Service manual installation tips 1:07:06 - Oil lubrication drain tube installation 1:08:46 - Install both coolant pipes and quick connect fittings 1:13:28 - Broken exhaust stud repair tips 1:16:10 - Turbo installation tips 1:17:51 - Repairing the cylinder head defect 1:18:58 - Turbo install and torque values #drshock #ecotec #cruze #chevysonic #chevroletsonic Disclaimer: DrShock, the alias for the human content creator for this YouTube channel, is not responsible for any damages, injuries, losses, or liabilities associated with any repairs, upgrades, or maintenance performed on yours, or any other, vehicle whatsoever.
