Stage 7 of the Pekoe Trail offers an immersive journey through Sri Lanka's lush tea country, stretching approximately 16.28 kilometers from Kotagala to Norwood. This segment is considered easy, with an elevation gain of 438 meters and a loss of 568 meters, reaching a maximum elevation of 1,115 meters. The trail commences in Kotagala, leading hikers past the historic Chrysler’s Farm Tea Factory, established in 1870, notable for its distinctive bright blue roof amidst verdant tea plantations. As you ascend, you'll be treated to panoramic views of Hatton town and encounter Singamalai Lake, a serene spot that supplies drinking water to Hatton and nearby villages, making it an ideal location for a restful pause. You will have the views of Adam's peak through out the journey. Continuing, the path meanders through rolling hills adorned with tea bushes, offering glimpses of the picturesque Castlereigh Reservoir in the Bogawantalawa Valley, renowned for producing some of Sri Lanka's finest teas. The trail also passes by the Darawella Club, one of the country's oldest planters' clubs, where a brief visit can provide historical insights. Throughout the journey, hikers will observe vibrant line rooms—terraced housing for tea plantation workers—and a mix of Hindu kovils and Christian churches, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of the region.
