A view through history shows Taiwan surviving various conflicts of its era before becoming the country it is today, a semiconductor powerhouse. A position that made it so important that China is rearing its war machine to dominate it, despite the Taiwanese people’s resistance. For decades, Taiwan has maintained that it is an independent country and not part of the Chinese mainland. But the Chinese Communist Party seems to disagree. One part because of their shared history and another part out of a desire to control Taiwan’s main advantage in the global market, its microchip production, the CCP has sworn to unite Taiwan with the Mainland, no matter the cost. Unfortunately, the cost of China taking over Taiwan will not only put Taiwan in jeopardy but would also make the entire world suffer devastating economic injuries. So why is China so desperate to control Taiwan? Firstly, both countries have a long and violent political history that intertwines them in the most complicated ways. Secondly, Taiwan is a semiconductor powerhouse, controlling over 50% of the world’s supply of microchips. These tiny little things allow all our devices, home appliances, medical instruments, military equipment, and intelligence devices to function. Without microchips, we will not have technology, and without technology, there is no world as we know it. China’s plan to take over Taiwan, if successful, will provide it with an enormous amount of political power that may hold the global economy hostage. Added to that is the fact that the U.S. has strong economic relations with Taiwan, and a blow to Taiwan will indeed be catastrophic for the U.S. economy. Also, if China takes control, the U.S. will have to succumb to the whims of the CCP. For obvious reasons, the U.S. has decided that China must go through it to get to Taiwan. Taiwan and the U.S. are preparing for a war that the world hopes will never happen. Meanwhile, China is bullying Taiwan and trying everything to demoralize its people.
